No stay in trial while moving higher court in corruption cases
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ruled that there would be no stay on the trial of accused facing corruption charges when they move the higher court against the order. A Division Bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna held that while the High Court had powers to entertain petitions against a trial court order,there would be no stay on the trial. Even if a petition under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (asking a court to use its inherent powers) or a writ petition under Article 227 of the Constitution of India is entertained by the High Court,under no circumstances should an order of stay be passed, the Bench held.
Two crime reporters held for extortion
New Delhi: A man was arrested with his friend for allegedly extorting money from his brother by posing as crime reporters in Northeast Delhi,police said. They had allegedly demanded money from the victim,stating that they would publish negative reports about him in a newspaper if he refused to give in. Sahdev Singh (30) and Shahid Ahmad (37),crime reporters with a local weekly newspaper Vardaat A to Z,were arrested near Bhagirathi Water Works Plant on a complaint by Rashid Mehmood,Ahmads brother,on Monday. Though Mehmood had already given them Rs 15,000,they were asking him for an additional Rs 10,000.
Orientation workshops conducted for parents
New Delhi; With the new academic session for pre-school about to commence in schools across the Capital,they are organising orientation workshops for parents. They are busy giving parenting tips to the new parents,familiarising them with the ethos of the school,and getting to know each other. After the admission hassle,parents are now getting ready for another phase. In city schools,the classwork for nursery begins from either April 4,April 7 or April 12. Orientation programmes have already been conducted in many schools across the Capital,including Delhi Public School,K R Mangalam,Summerfields School,Sanskiri School and Apeejay School. While many schools conducted the orientation programme for free,Apeejay School,Pitampura reportedly charged Rs 27,000 rupees from the parents for the three day workshop.
