The Delhi High Court has rejected the plea of a retired judge to direct the Centre on extending the tenure of the chairperson of the Cyber Appellate Tribunal to five years.

HC rejects tenure extension plea
The Delhi High Court has rejected the plea of a retired judge to direct the Centre on extending the tenure of the chairperson of the Cyber Appellate Tribunal to five years. The court dismissed a petition filed by Rajesh Tandon,who is working as the presiding officer of the Tribunal,seeking a direction to the government to bring an amendment in the Information Technology Act and modify the tenure clause. The Bench said Tandon had accepted the offer for the post with the tenure of three years,and could not claim an extension.

HC seeks CBI reply on Rana’s bail plea
The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the CBI to submit its response on the bail plea of Bar Council of India member Rajendra Singh Rana by December 27. Rana was arrested by the agency for allegedly taking bribe for granting affiliation to a law college in Ghaziabad. He submitted that he was entitled to bail as his custodial interrogation by the investigating agency was over and the verification of relevant documents complete. The agency claimed to have recovered over Rs 1 lakh from his residence.

Metro to continue reserved coaches
Reserved women’s coaches on the Delhi Metro,introduced on a trial basis,is here to stay,Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan said on Friday. After getting an overwhelming response from women commuters,the Delhi Metro plans to continue the service.

No stay on release of Metro pillar design: HC
The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to stay the CIC’s direction to the Delhi Metro to make public the design of the pillar at Zamrudpur that had collapsed last year,killing six people. On the petition of architect Sudhir Vohra,the CIC on March 18 had directed the DMRC to make public all structural drawings related to the pillar in the larger public interest.
