Fire in Kashmere Gate
Several shops were gutted when a fire broke out in Kashmere Gate,North Delhi. According to the police,the fire started around 9.30 pm and about 27 fire tenders were sent to the spot. Cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet.

Two auto-lifters held
The South Delhi police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of auto-lifters and arrested two accused — Noor Mohammed,33,and Rajinder,24. The police also claimed to have recovered ten motorcycles.

Bike thief held
A man was arrested by the Tughlaq Road police for allegedly stealing a motorcycle from the racecourse in New Delhi district on April 21. The accused was arrested from Ajmeri Gate area in Central Delhi and the bike — Hero Honda Passion — was also recovered from him,the police said.

Rs 2 cr spent on tours
Response to an RTI query has revealed that the municipal councillors have spent around Rs 2 crore on foreign and domestic tours in the past three years. The RTI query,filed by municipal member R K Ahuja,revealed that most tours were undertaken to upgrade knowledge and skill regarding public health,strategies for control of diseases and sanitation.

Child labourers rescued
Seventy-two child labourers were rescued on Wednesday from a bag manufacturing units in the Capital and eight of their employers were taken into custody. The child labourers,trafficked from Bihar,were rescued from Nabi Kareem,Central Delhi,in a joint operation by the police,Labour department officials and NGOs Human Rights Law Network and Bachpan Bachao Andolan. The children have been sent to rescue homes.

Multi-level parkings
In a bid to resolve Delhi’s parking woes,that are expected to get worse during the Commonwealth Games,the Delhi government will have Maruti Suzuki Ltd set up automated parking lots at six different spots across the city. These parking lots will be built on existing parking lots but will be multi-level parking,Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta said. The spots identified include Daryaganj,Paharganj and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg.

Copyright Board office
The Centre on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that besides providing basic infrastructure,a special officer has been appointed to take care of overall work of the Copyright Board following the court’s earlier direction. Appearing for the Centre,Additional Solicitor General A S Chandhioke told a Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta that Jagdish Swaroop has been appointed as Special Officer in the Board.
