The Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on a PIL challenging the appointment of Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar after the Home Ministry submitted a report saying that it had received and rejected the representation made by the petitioner.

NEW DELHI:The Delhi High Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on a PIL challenging the appointment of Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar after the Home Ministry submitted a report saying that it had received and rejected the representation made by the petitioner. The bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath fixed May 31 for pronouncement of judgement on a PIL filed by M S Devasayam,a retired IAS officer from Chennai who had sought to quash the appointment of Kumar as Police Commissioner on the ground that he has been facing charges of power misuse and rights violations.

21-year-old woman found dead in Chirag Dilli

NEW DELHI:A 21-year-old woman was found dead in her rented accommodation in Chirag Dilli on Wednesday. The woman,a resident of Manipur,is suspected to have committed suicide as the police recovered several strips of medicinal drugs from the dustbin in her bedroom. A PCR call was made by the landlord around 11.30 am on Wednesday,after the woman did not answer the doorbell. Police said they were awaiting the post-mortem report and the analysis from the CFSL.

Girl ‘threatened’ in court: HC issues notices

NEW DELHI:Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports of trafficking and abuse of a girl rescued from a brothel in GB Road,the Delhi High Court bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath issued notices to the Delhi government,Delhi Police and NGO Shakti Vahini,asking them to file their replies to the report that the girl was threatened when she was produced before a magistrate and the brothel owners had represented some person as the girl’s “father” in an attempt to take her back. The next hearing is on July 10.

Centre to reply on national flag misrepresentation

NEW DELHI:The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Centre and Delhi government,asking them to respond to a PIL seeking directions to ensure that the national flag as well as the national emblem are respectfully displayed at all occasions and places. The PIL,filed by filmmaker Ulhas PR,states that misrepresentation of the national flag by the government departments on different occasions has been reported in newspapers and despite online complaints against them,no action had been taken.
