Army wives, wards to be skilled under pilot project

Army wives and wards will now be provided training in areas like IT, beauty and wellness, apparel and handicraft at an Army Skill Training Centre in New Delhi. In all, 10 centres have been planned across the country under a pilot project, with the first one being inaugurated in the national capital on Monday.

On successful completion of their respective courses, trainees will get a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) certificate. The training partner will make efforts to place them suitably in various organisations or assist them in self-employment, NSDC said in a statement. The pilot project to skill Indian Army spouses and wards with linkages to NSDC will make all those undergoing training eligible for being sponsored under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme.

In the initial phase, courses in IT and IT enabled services, beauty and wellness, apparel and handicraft sectors will be conducted by an NSDC-affiliated training partner.
