Only a single open bottle of another state is allowed in Uttar Pradesh, said officials

Even as the sale of liquor in the city has increased by more than 15% in the last six months, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration has asked its citizens to report anyone who is buying alcohol from neighboring states. Officials said the appeal has been issued to make people aware of the excise rules and increase liquor revenue. They also said the identity of the complainants will not be revealed in such cases.
“In Uttar Pradesh, bringing or consuming liquor from outside the state (Haryana, Delhi or any other state) is a punishable offence. For this act, a case can be registered against the person under Section 63 of the Uttar Pradesh Excise Act 1910 and he/she can be sent to jail, and under Section 72, the vehicle of the person transporting illegal liquor can be confiscated,” said Subodh Kumar, District Excise Officer.
