In these no-frills flying days, airports may have become the place where you fidget before you get on the cheapest flight available. But airports are also about its swank quotient and the brands that have landed there. Versace,Mango,Swarovski and Marks and Spencer will open at the retail space at the international departure area.

Smoke House Deli too will have an 80-cover outlet just outside the duty-free shopping zone. “We will be offering the usual pastas, bagels, burgers, sandwiches and desserts,” says Vasul Chauhan,GM of Smoke House Deli, which has an outlet at DLF Place,Vasant Kunj. “But there will be some modifications depending on the cooking restrictions at the airport.” The Delhi-based chocolaterie Choko-la will have two outlets with walls covered with posters of Old Delhi skyline. “We will serve tasting platters of hand-crafted chocolates. Another counter will have a selection of dessert platters,” says Karan Singh, business head,Choko-la. Food services operator,Travel Food Services from Mumbai will be bringing at least 15 food-and-beverages outlets.

The UK-based bookstore
WH Smith will be making its foray into India with six outlets, including a large store selling confectionery, health and beauty products, travel accessories, stationery and,of course, books.

There are also plans for major cosmetics and perfume brands, apart from swanky lounges and nap and shower rooms.

The domestic departure area will have a food court spread over 40,000 sq ft,with popular chains like Dominos Pizza,Subway,Baskin-Robbins,a Singaporean fast-food brand called 4 Fingers and an Italian chain called Cafe Ritazza. There will also be health-food counters, cafes, pubs and a smoking bar called The Grid. “We want brands that cater to various segments of travellers,” says a spokesperson of Delhi Select Services Hospitality Provider, which has the franchise for the food court in the domestic terminal. The food court can seat 375 people. To keep the children engaged, there will be an LCD screen playing cartoons on a loop.
