Despite leading 4-1 against Neena Praveen in a race to six final, defending 9-ball pool champion Anuja Chandra, let slip the advantage and was playing catch up thereafter. But then when everybody thought the end was near,a window of opportunity opened for the defending champion. She got lucky in the deciding rack, when Neena returned the favour. And Anuja pocketed the last three balls to seal the issue.

“Having defeated Neena in the second round,I was confident of beating her in straight sets. But she bounced back hard and gave me a tough time. The moment she missed the seventh ball, the title was on the platter just three balls away”,said Anuja.

Winning her 12th title of the cue sports, the 2006 Arjuna Awardee added that it was a perfect start for the year.

“The year is going to be very hectic. After the nationals,my focus will be entirely upon the snooker nationals and selection camps and Asian qualifiers”,said Chandra.

Interestingly, she will be trying her hand with a shorter version of snooker — played with only six red balls. The same format will be employed for the women’s category at the Asian Games instead of the 15 red. “It’s a shorter format of snooker and a very interesting one. It can be called as the T-20 format of snooker. I will be playing the 6 red nationals in March at Bangalore and will try my best to clinch the title”,she added.

When asked about to pick her preference among major cue sports, she took no time in saying “snooker”. She was confident of representing the country in snooker at the Asian Games in Guanzhou,China.
