Two days after her high-profile entry into the BJP, Kiran Bedi called up her Lokpal movement guru Anna Hazare, but Anna “refused to take her call” on two occasions.
Sources said Bedi wanted to request Hazare to either come to Delhi to give his blessings or, if he couldn’t travel, convey them through the media. However, the 77-year-old activist did not oblige.
“She had called around 9.30 pm on Friday but Anna had gone to bed by them. She called again at 10 am on Sunday. Anna was with (Delhi-based activist) Rajgopal PV. When the call was brought to him, he refused to take it. Later, he told his assistants not to take Bedi’s calls as he did not wish to talk to her,” a source said.
On Friday, Anna had said, “I got to know about Bedi joining BJP through the media. I don’t want to talk about it. It doesn’t affect me.”
Hazare added that there was “no chance” that he would campaign for “Kiran bahen”. “She never brought up this topic. Anyway, in a democracy, everyone has a right to make choices,” he had said.
