Delhi: Air compressor prank goes wrong, man critical

A 19-year-old man sustained serious injuries to his intestines after his colleague allegedly inserted an air compressor in his rectum and switched on the machine. The man has been admitted at a local hospital in Mianwali Nagar on Friday.

The accused, who works at a shoe-making factory in outer Delhi, has been arrested, police said. Confirming the incident, DCP (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said, “We have arrested the accused, Rahul, after a case was registered under IPC section 308 (attempt to cause culpable homicide) at Mangolpuri police station. The accused used an air compressor to inflict serious injuries to the victim.”

According to police, the local hospital informed police about the incident. The injured man was brought into the hospital after he complained of an infection.“The hospital informed us that the man had initially come with strong stomach pain and an infection. They also found that the man had air trapped in his body. He underwent an emergency surgery after it was found that he had sustained serious injuries to his intestines. The victim is now stable,” said a police officer.

However, police are yet to establish the sequence of events as the victim has not given his statement. “During questioning, the accused claimed that it was a prank and he did not want to cause him any harm,” the officer said. Police have questioned several people from the factory where the incident took place and also recovered the air compressor, added the officer.
