More than a month after the Union Health ministry reconstituted the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) body,the members met at the Union Health ministers office on Tuesday for the first time.
The members discussed the issue of senior faculty members leaving the institute. The decision on how to fill the vacant posts has been kept aside for the bodys next meeting in June.
The institute body comprising 17 members includes Prime Ministers surgeon Dr Ramakanta Panda,Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj,Rajya Sabha member R K Dhawan,MP Jyoti Mirdha and Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental. The newly appointed members of the body include Dr M K Bhan,secretary of Department of Biotechnology (Government of India),Dr S P Aggarwal,secretary general Indian Red Cross Society,Dr K K Talwar of PGI Chandigarh,Dr R A Badwe of Tata Memorial and Dr Hameed Zargar,Director of Srinagarss Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences.
The members,meanwhile,noted that the AIIMS should not be privatised.
Sources in the ministry said other members who are nominated include Union Health Secretary K Sujatha Rao and Director General of Health Services R K Srivastava. Secretary Higher Education Vibha Puri Das,K C Pandey,nominee of Indian Science Congress and AIIMS director Dr R C Deka are also members of the body.
