Day 1 of counting at JNU saw most parties with mixed fortunes.

Day 1 of counting at JNU saw most parties with mixed fortunes. The final result of the JNU students’ union elections are to be declared on Sunday.

Of the 1,700 votes that have been counted till Saturday evening for the president’s post,Lenin Kumar of SFI-JNU was leading by a small margin.

SFI-JNU was created by SFI rebels who had been expelled from the party’s state leadership for not following its parent party line on the issue of Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature for the post of the president.

In the elections held six months ago,AISA had won as many as 16 out of the 29 councillor seats. Till Saturday evening,at least six councillor seats were won by the party while SFI-JNU won four. ABVP,too,has won six,while NSUI won two seats so far.

School of Social Sciences and School of International Studies each have three councillors from AISA and two from SFI-JNU.

While the results of a few smaller centres have been declared,the counting of votes for School of Language Literature and Culture Studies are still going on.
