A day after Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) swept to power in Delhi University students union (DUSU) elections, senior Delhi BJP leaders were found crediting the partys prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for the victory.
The students party, which had named the Gujarat chief minister their role model and used his pictures on their posters during campaigning, were declared winners just a day after Modi was anointed the PM candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
And now,the leaders hope the Modi wave will help the party win the upcoming Assembly elections too. Modi has been able to associate with the youth. When he came to Shri Ram College of Commerce the crowd was unprecedented. ABVP put based their election campaign on Modi. We understand that students are voters too and if they have voted for Modi they will vote for us in Assembly elections, Delhi BJP chief Goel said.
Senior leader and BJP MLA Harsh Vardhan echoed Goel. The citys city is frustrated because of Chief Ministers Sheila Dikshits comments on several issues such as security to women and unemployment. In Delhi, once students pass out of college, they dont get jobs. School students cant get a seat in colleges even after scoring even 90 per cent. The writing on wall is clear. Modis appearance on the political centrestage given the working of the party a systematic turn, he said.
V K Malhotra, leader of opposition, said Modi was an inspiration. Modi being the youth icon led to ABVPs victory in the DUSU polls. We hope this will change the future of the party in Delhi and at the Centre Malhotra said.
