New Delhi constituency is witnessing a triangular fight this time as the AAP supremo and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is being challenged by BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit.
Interestingly, both these candidates are also sons of former Delhi Chief Ministers – Parvesh Sharma, the son of former CM Sahib Singh Sharma, and Sandeep Dikshit the son of former CM Sheila Dikshit.
Meanwhile, a non-cognizable report against him for allegedly distributing shoes to voters at a Valmiki Temple in the Capital was also filed on the same day.
Verma, however, claimed that he was merely honouring the sanitation workers by placing shoes on their feet at the temple and not distributing footwear as alleged.
The former two-time MP Verma is the son of the former Chief Minister of Delhi, late Sahib Singh Verma and Sahib Kaur. He completed his education in Delhi, holding a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from the West Delhi constituency and won with a significant margin, marking his entry into national politics.
He was re-elected from the same constituency in the 2019 elections with the biggest ever margin in Delhi Lok Sabha history, solidifying his position as a key BJP leader in Delhi.
The Delhi assembly elections are due to be held on February 5 with the counting of votes to be done on February 8. The national capital holds over 1.55 crore registered electors across 70 constituencies that are expected to participate in the 2025 assembly elections.
