AAP Number 2 counts on divides within BJP for a win

According to Sisodia, political battle in Delhi is unlike any in other states, BJP seems to have forgotten it.

On poll eve, the AAP’s second-in-command Manish Sisodia is confident of his party getting a majority. His confidence has three reasons — the party’s continuing fight against corruption, the BJP’s lack of an action-plan for Delhi and infighting within the saffron party.

“Throughout the campaign, the BJP has had no vision for Delhi. Its entire vision document was very oratory and verbose. The measures planned by the BJP leaders could have been announced by anyone. Where is the vision?” the former Delhi education and urban development minister, said.

According to Sisodia, the political battle in Delhi is unlike any in other states and the BJP seems to have forgotten that.

“They (BJP) were too confident. We have always said the political opponents the BJP has in Delhi are different from those in other states. We deliver and people still have hope in us. In Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, the BJP didn’t have an opponent. Here, there is Arvind Kejriwal supported by a huge army of volunteers,” Sisodia said.

Elaborating on the battle in his constituency, Patparganj, Sisodia said, “They (BJP) made a mistake by pitting (Vinod Kumar) Binny against me. They do not seem to have paid much attention to their choice of candidates.”

Binny, a sitting MLA from Laxmi Nagar, had contested the last Assembly polls on an AAP ticket. After being expelled from the party, Binny had claimed that he would contest the polls as an independent candidate from New Delhi against Kejriwal. But he joined the BJP a few weeks ago and was fielded from Patparganj.

On BJP’s CM face Kiran Bedi, Sisodia said “she seems to have compromised 40 years of her work and image by choosing to be the CM candidate of the BJP”.

Comparing the last Assembly polls to the upcoming one, Sisodia said the AAP, this time, was being seen as a strong contender for the Delhi government.

“First-time syndrome is no longer there. People used to say that even if you get four seats, you should not worry. For a party going to polls for the first time, even four seats are a lot. This is a good thing for us. People didn’t have enough confidence, they did not know whether we will get enough seats. But that is no longer the case. People are taking us seriously now,” he said.
