AAP gets aam aadmi’s ‘go-ahead’

The gatherings saw most residents raising their hands and shouting,“sarkar banao”. A few residents who were not supportive of this verdict warned that the party might lose support if it joins hands with the Congress or the BJP.

According to some residents,however,in case of re-elections,the party’s voter base will expand. “Even if they fulfill four or five of the promises,people will give them thrice the number of votes,” said Amardeep Singh,a resident of Savitri Nagar in the Greater Kailash constituency.

Yogesh Saha,another resident from Malviya Nagar,said,“Even though the Congress has said that they will support AAP,we know that they might backtrack. This is how they function. But,this is the time for AAP to show courage. In case re-elections take place,it will be because of the BJP and Congress. The public knows this and they will ensure that AAP gets a majority in the next polls.”

For many others,their decision to give a green signal to AAP stemmed from their faith in the promises made by the party. “The electricity and water bills have spiralled in the last few years. The AAP has promised to cut down the electricity rates by half and supply 700 litres of water free to households. They should be given a chance to form the government. We are hopeful that they will fulfill their promises if not immediately,at least in a couple of months,” K B Arora,a resident of Malviya Nagar,said.

The verdict was the same across constituencies. At Khichdipur village in Patparganj constituency,Rama Devi,said,“For several decades,no development has taken place in this area. If a government is formed now,work can start immediately. If the Congress does badmaashi,then we will vote for the AAP again. Why then should a government not be formed?”

“If there is an opportunity now,the AAP must take it. These political parties are very clever. If we wait six months,who knows what will happen? The BJP and the Congress will find a way to sideline the AAP,” said Vikas Kumar,a carpenter.
