“The ads were run in a specific manner at evening and morning hours to attract maximum customers. When people saw the ad, they would be directed to the fake website. Since D-Mart and Big Basket are big names, customers would place huge orders and provide all their personal details and banking details. The accused used this to hack into their SMS system and would steal all their money from their multiple bank accounts and credit cards,” said an officer.
The accused, Vineet Kumar, Dhruv Solanki, Gaurav Talan, Salman Khan, Santosh Maurya and Manoj Maurya, are college graduates. “We have seized three laptops, four phones, two debit cards, Rs 11,700 and a Hyundai i10 car from the gang,” Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit said. An accused revealed he was making fake websites with help of APK files and created fake Facebook accounts which were used to publish target ads, said police.
