The MCD will meet in the Town Hall on Monday afternoon,in the backdrop of the standoff between the MCD and the state government. The Commonwealth Games is the latest point in the argument,with the government claiming that the civic body is behind schedule on the Games projects. A status report on the projects,as demanded by the Chief Minister from the Mayor,is due this week.

DU REOPENS
After a gruelling admission process,the Delhi University is set to begin its academic session this Thursday. An exciting phase lies ahead for first-year students after the rigour of school. For others,it’s back to college.

GARMENT FAIR
The 43rd India International Garment Fair will be held at the Pragati Maidan this week. The fair begins Wednesday,and is a rare chance to explore clothes and accessories from around the globe.

NEPAL CONFLICT
On Tuesday evening at 6.30 pm,the Indian Council of World Affairs will open an exhibition of images from Nepal’s internal conflict at the IIC. The pictures capture the life of a nation through ten years of civil war,from 1996-2006. On Thursday,Frames of War,a film on the conflict,will also be screened.

DRIVING MISS DAISY
On Tuesday at 6.30 pm,the IHC will screen Driving Miss Daisy,an iconic film dealing with civil rights. Tale of an elderly Jewish woman’s relation with her coloured driver,the film mapped the racial rejuvenation of a divided America. This 1989 film won four Oscars,including Best Picture and Best Actress for 81-year-old Jessica Tandy.
