4 held for ex-IAF officer’s murder

Four members of a gang of highway robbers have been arrested allegedly for the murder of a former Air Force officer,police said on Tuesday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rakesh Kake (22),Deepak (20) and Rampal,all residents of Trilokpuri in Delhi,and Deepak Khairwal (26),a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

The victim,Surender Singh (48),was offered a lift by the accused on the night of January 14 from the Mukundpur traffic junction. Surender agreed,but en route,they tried to rob him. When Singh resisted,they stabbed him three times in the neck. “Later,they dumped Singh’s body near the Budhpur drain in Swaroop Nagar area of West Delhi. They robbed him of his two mobile phones,a laptop and Rs 23,000 in cash,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Meenu Choudhary.

Singh,who resided in Sector-10 of Gurgaon,worked as a general manager at Phoenix Ltd in Kala Amb,Himachal Pradesh. He would visit his house every weekend. On the night of his murder,Singh had parked his car in Ambala and then took a bus to Delhi.

While Khairwal,the mastermind,was arrested by the Northwest police,Rampal was nabbed by the Crime Branch.

During questioning,the gang members revealed that they used to hire cars from the city,and target victims coming from other states at Karnal Bypass,Dhaula Kuan,ISBT Anand Vihar and Mehrauli-Badarpur road.
