32-year-old man held for molesting woman in Saket

The woman told police that she did not know the accused,identified as Arjun. When she saw him walking towards her,she assumed he wanted to ask her something. “She thought Arjun wanted to ask her the time or about a bus route. But he groped her,” a police officer said.

She raised an alarm and started running towards the malls in Saket. Delhi Police has set up a women’s help desk outside Select Citywalk mall in Saket,under 1 km from where the woman was molested.

The desk was set up earlier this month. It has two women personnel — an assistant sub-inspector and a constable — and is open from 11 am to 10 pm.

The woman saw the help desk and rushed to them.

There,she narrated the incident and was taken to Saket police station,where a case of molestation and sexual assault,under Sections 509 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code,was registered.

“The woman described Arjun’s appearance. A sketch was made and he was arrested within 30 minutes,” a senior police officer said.

Police are planning to keep the desk open till 3 am. “The footfall of the mall is strong till 3 am,as visitors come to watch movies. We feel that the help desk would instil a sense of security and help reduce crime. During the inauguration of the help desk,we had reiterated the need for every woman to learn self-defence,” the officer said.
