Thirty-two students of a Delhi government-aided school fell sick on Wednesday after consuming food served as mid-day meal. The police said they received a call around noon about the incident at Baba Nebhraj School in Lajpat Nagar I.
The school authorities said just after the meal the students complained of sickness. The students started complaining after consuming the food, school principal Rukmini Kesarwani said. We are cooperating with the police in their investigations.
An open school Board exam was being conducted in the school,which is till XII standard,when the incident took place.
Meanwhile,the students said the food looked stale. Nikhil,who had the food,said,The daal was sticky. I even mentioned it to my friend. Daal chawal was the mid-day meal on Wednesday.
Another student said,The colour of the rice was also different today. It was pale. But we ate as we didnt have a choice.
Meanwhile,after they complained,the students were taken to a local MCD Hospital,which referred them to the Safdarjung Hospital. All were discharged after preliminary medication.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the students fell ill because of the stale food. The children complained of stomach ache,nausea and vomiting. They were affected due to the consumption of bad food, a senior hospital official said.
A senior police officer at the Lajpat Nagar police station said a case of negligence (under section 336) has been registered against the food contractor Manjeet Singh. The police are now looking for him.
