Watch: Armed men rob delivery agent of Rs 2 lakh inside Delhi’s Pragati Maidan tunnel

A case was registered and raids are being conducted to arrest the men. Police are also questioning the complainants, their employer and other staffers to ascertain if it was an inside job.

CCTV footage of a daylight robbery on Saturday inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel in Delhi shows four people in two motorcycles waylaying a cab, threatening the passengers at gunpoint, and making away with a bag full of cash from the vehicle’s rear seat.

The 22-second footage, which surfaced Monday, shows the robbery took place even as several vehicles passed by Saturday afternoon. One of the assailants can be seen wearing a helmet and carrying a weapon with which he threatens the driver. Another man is seen taking the bag out of the car’s rear seat and quickly riding away with the others.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena should resign and “make way for someone who can provide safety n security to the people of Delhi”. “If Central govt is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show u how to make a city safe for its citizens,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.

On Sunday, the Delhi Police had said a delivery agent and his associate were robbed by the assailants at gunpoint inside the tunnel. The police said the men were heading towards Gurgaon in an old taxi to deliver a bag, which contained nearly Rs 2 lakh, when they were robbed.

After the incident, the complainant lodged a complaint with the police. The complainant, Patel Sajan Kumar, who works as a delivery agent with Omiya Enterprises at Chandni Chowk, was with his friend Jigar Patel when he was robbed.

Pranav Tayal, DCP (New Delhi), said, “They gave a written complaint at Tilak Marg police station stating that they hired an Ola cab from Lal Qila and were on their way to Gurugram. When they entered the tunnel, a group of four men came on two bikes and waylaid the men. They robbed the bag at gunpoint”.

The police had said a case was registered and raids were being conducted to arrest the men. They said they were also questioning the complainants, their employer, and other company staff to ascertain if it was an inside job.

The 1.5 km Pragati Maidan tunnel connects New Delhi with Sarai Kale Khan and Noida.
