The Bangalore police have increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh the reward for information leading to the arrest of the man who attacked a woman bank official at an ATM in the heart of the city on November 19. Despite a CCTV camera capturing his images and the suspicion that he may be involved in a series of recent attacks on women in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh,the identity of the attacker is still to be established. Over 200 cops were involved in a futile hunt for the man in Anantapur soon after the attack on Jyothi Uday. Teams of Bangalore police are still camping in Andhra Pradesh and searching for the attacker with the help of the Andhra police since he is also wanted in criminal cases,including the murder of a woman to steal her ATM cards,in Anantapur. The Andhra Pradesh police have announced a separate reward of Rs 2 lakh for information on the attacker. Jyothi,44,a manager at a Corporation Bank branch,was brutally attacked at an ATM at NR Square. The attacker followed Jyothi into the ATM room a little past 7 am,downed the shutters and threatened her with a machete to withdraw money for him. He attacked her when she did not cooperate. We need public cooperation to nab the attacker. We have distributed hand bills in Karnataka,Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to nab him, the police said. Meanwhile,Jyothi continues to receive treatment at BGS Global Hospital in Kengeri. My wife is recovering. She is speaking well. She will be in hospital for at least another week, her husband Uday said.
