Tamil Nadu man arrested after viral video of bike stunt with firecrackers

The Tiruchirapalli police in Tamil Nadu have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly indulging in a dangerous bike stunt and simultaneously bursting firecrackers attached to his two-wheeler.

According to the police, on a national highway near Sirumaruthur, a bike rider with firecrackers attached to the vehicle performed a wheelie, a trick in which the front of the bike is raised off the road for a brief period. The video, uploaded on November 9 through an Instagram handle _devil_rider with over 71,000 followers, was shared widely on social media.

The state police conducted an inquiry and found that the rider who performed the stunt was S Ajay, a resident of Thanjavur. The video had Tamil film dialogues as background music and showed a person lighting up a firecracker attached to the bike, presumably a skyrocket type, and Ajay performing a wheelie at a high speed.

The police booked Ajay under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act and arrested him Monday. They also booked a few others who also indulged in such acts across the district.

The police said a special team of officials are monitoring to take action against people indulging in such activities. The actions include initiating legal action and recommending to the regional transport department to cancel their driving licence.

District SP Varunkumar took to X and informed that the list of people who had committed such acts are being prepared and the police will take action against them.

T T F Vasan, a YouTube vlogger who enjoys a cult fan base among the youth, was arrested and his licence was cancelled after he was injured during a bike stunt on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway in September. He was granted bail on his second bail petition this month.
