Premkumar was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, the Periamet police said, adding that Guru and Kumar were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A history-sheeter was murdered in broad daylight in Chennai outside a state-owned liquor store on Tuesday, police said, adding that six people were nabbed in connection with the incident and that the accused included a 16-year-old boy.
According to the police, G Premkumar (39), a resident of Wall Tax Road, Chennai, was waylaid by a gang of 10 people outside the Tasmac outlet at EVR Salai near Periamet when he walked out after consuming liquor. The gang attacked Premkumar and two others—his cousin Guru alias Nareshkumar and friend Vasanthakumar—with sharp weapons and fled the spot.

The police registered a case on multiple charges including murder and attempted murder. They arrested five people—S Manoj alias Kumki (24) of Palavakkam, who has over four cases pending against him, R Ajay (20) of RA Puram, R Duraimurugan (18), K Rohit (18), M Santosh (18) of MGR Nagar—and apprehended a 16-year-old boy on Wednesday.
“During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that in 2013, one Settu alias Karthik and his associates murdered Premkumar’s brother Ranjith at Pulianthope. To take revenge for this, Premkumar and his associates murdered Settu in the Basin Bridge area in 2022. In order to take revenge for this, Settu’s cousin Sivashankar and his associates murdered Premkumar,” an officer said, adding that the police were on the lookout for Sivashankar and his associates.
While five of the accused persons will be produced before a court, the 16-year-old accused will be produced in a juvenile court, the police said.
On Tuesday morning, Premkumar, a history-sheeter in the records of the C-2 Elephant Gate police station, appeared at a court in Allikulam in connection with a trial.
