(Photo Credit: Special Arrangement)A first-of-its-kind executive lounge equipped with airport-like facilities has been opened at Chennai Central, officially Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central Railway Station, the Southern Railway said on Tuesday.
Located on the main concourse near platform number 6, the lounge can accommodate 180 passengers and houses 112 single sofas and 10 recliners. Additionally there are 18 single sleeping pods and four double sleeping pods, catering to solo travellers as well as families.
A cyclic buffet offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is made available in the lounge. Separate restrooms for men and women, exclusive spaces for showering and changing and separate luggage racks are some of the other facilities.

The entry charge is Rs 200 for a one-hour stay with free Wi-Fi and tea or coffee. For a single sleeping pod with provisions for a water bottle; special welcome drink; Wi-Fi; and a blanket, pillow and bed sheets, the charge is Rs 840 for three hours. Charges vary according to the facilities and the duration of one’s stay and also come as a package with a cyclic buffet.
“The contract has been awarded to M/s Ten 11 Hospitality for a period of five years for a total value of Rs 17.75 crore,” a release from the railway read. “The new executive lounge provides a 24/7 haven with top-notch amenities such as air conditioning, stylish sofa sets, travel desk, continuous Wi-Fi connectivity and a delightful beverage-cum-snack stall. This modern facility will benefit both incoming and outgoing passengers to rest, relax and rejuvenate during their short stay at the station.”
