Chennai: Suburban train services suspended today; metro rail offers additional services

Over 50 suburban train services were cancelled on Tuesday on the Chennai Beach – Tambaram – Chengalpattu section due to ongoing engineering works in the Chennai Egmore and Villupuram section at St Thomas Mount Yard.

According to the release, a total of 53 suburban trains were canceled between 10:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday for maintenance work for the line block/power block. This affected train operations from Kancheepuram to Chennai Beach and Tirumalpur to Chennai Beach.

To compensate for the service disruption, Southern Railway will run 16 special trains between Tambaram and Chengalpattu railway stations.

Due to the cancellation of suburban trains, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will operate additional services on both the green line and the blue line.

As per the statement issued by CMRL, trains from Wimco Nagar Depot metro station to Airport metro, operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., will run with a six-minute interval. Additionally, services from Aringar Anna Alandur metro to Washermenpet metro, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the blue line, will run with a three-minute interval.

Similarly, the three other services on the Green line – Arignar Anna Alandur metro to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central metro; Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central metro to St Thomas Mount; and Airport metro to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MG Ramachandran Central – operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., will operate with a headway of 6 to 12 minutes.
