Throwing hints at an alliance pact with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T T V Dhinakaran on Wednesday said there was nothing wrong if any two parties can join and face the polls. When asked about his change of approach towards BJP against whom he had issued some strong statements, Dhinakaran, a staunch critic of the saffron party, told reporters that earlier he was against forging ties with anyone acting against the welfare of Tamil Nadu. “This was because at that time the BJP-led central government attempted to implement certain schemes affecting the farmers and people of the state, he said. However, now the central government has altered its stand, and hence I have not been strongly criticising them,” he said. Dhinakaran, after paying tributes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran (MGR) on his 107th birth anniversary at Manjakuppam in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, told reporters that he would speak about the alliance for the 2024 polls at an appropriate time. டிடிவி தினகரன் அவர்கள், கடலூர் மாவட்டம், மஞ்சக்குப்பம், மணிகுண்டு அருகே அமைந்துள்ள… pic.twitter.com/vVxoO77637— TTV Dhinakaran (@TTVDhinakaran) January 17, 2024 The AMMK leader also said he has not yet decided whether he would be contesting the 2024 polls. He also confirmed joining hands with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. “Panneerselvam and I have decided to work together in politics and have been taking steps towards that,” Dhinakaran said. In May 2023, both Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam, who were expelled from the AIADMK, informed the media that they will have an alliance similar to the working relationship between CPI and CPM. While briefing the media together, the duo said it's time to forget the past and move forward as it is important to rescue the AIADMK from the clutches of a few people who have no connection with the party's fundamentals.
