A woman Inspector, who was earlier posted as the head of the District Cyber Cell, has written a letter to Punjab Director General of Police, DGP, Gaurav Yadav demanding a thorough investigation in an alleged Rs 100 crore cyber fraud case and also sought shifting of the investigation of the case either to the State Cyber Cell or the Bureau of Investigation, BoI.

The officer alleged that a nexus of police and politicians tried to frame her in the case., The district court in April ordered the registration of an FIR against Inspector Amanjot Kaur after a petitioner, Palak Dev, filed an application under Section 156, 3, of the Criminal Procedure Code, CrPC, alleging that the officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 25 lakh from them,

Inspector Amanjot Kaur was posted as in-charge of the district cyber cell in January and is now posted in the police lines., The Mohali court’s order was stayed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the next date of hearing is on September 12.

On January 9, when Inspector Amanjot Kaur, posted as in-charge of district Cyber Cell, busted a call centre which was being allegedly operated from a house in Sector 108. An FIR under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Indian Penal Code, IPC, was lodged against the alleged call centre owners Varinder Raj Kapooria, Sanket, Sonu, Rajat Kapoor and Nikhil Kapil.

Sources told The Indian Express that Inspector Amanjot wrote in her complaint, “I have been the whistleblower of a scam of more than Rs 100 crores operating openly in a residential RWA without any permission and without paying any income taxes for last three years.”

The officer alleged that a senior police officer posted in Mohali threatened her to lodge false cases against her if she opened her mouth against them.

It was alleged in the complaint, “The officer has also threatened me to write against me in a departmental inquiry.”, The sources said that the woman officer said in her complaint, “I humbly request you to kindly transfer the case to BOI, Bureau of Investigation, or State Cyber Cell so that thorough investigation without any political and local police influence could be done.”
