Woman held for strangling her son in Jhajjar

The Haryana Police on Thursday arrested a woman for killing her son by strangling him and then dumping his body in her residence at Asodha village in Jhajjar district on December 4.

The Haryana Police on Thursday arrested a woman for killing her son by strangling him and then dumping his body in her residence at Asodha village in Jhajjar district on December 4.

Confessing to her crime,Meena (35) told the police that she was fed up with her husband’s drinking habit and physical abuse, and therefore, decided to kill her son Harsh (7) and commit suicide. But while she succeeded in killing Harsh, she could not gather courage to kill herself.

Harsh’s body was recovered from his residence the day he was murdered. According to the investigating officer of the case,Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar,Meena was considered to be a suspect right from the beginning. “We chose to go slow in the case because we had zeroed in on Meena as the prime suspect. She had strangulated her child with a dupatta and then left his body in the room and went to work in the fields. She returned in the evening and started yelling that her son has been murdered. Her version was quite sketchy right from the start,” said Kumar.

Meena,in her statement to the police, had said that her husband Parminder was an alcoholic and used to come home very late. He was also allegedly abusive towards her and Harsh and this had forced her to commit such a crime, she added.

Since the police were suspecting Meena’s version of the incident, they registered a case on charges of murder on the victim’s grandfather Satbir.

Inspector Vijay Singh Dahiya,Station House officer of Sadar police station,in whose jurisdiction the murder took place, said: “Meena admitted to her crime in the presence of the village’s former sarpanch Mahender Singh and Raj Singh, who informed the police that Meena had confessed to her crime. When questioned, she admitted to her crime. She was produced in the court today and remanded to judicial custody. Meena was lodged in Rohtak jail.”
