A 30-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Kharar on Saturday.

A 30-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in Kharar on Saturday. Uma was married to a leading doctor’s son Amarinder Singh. The couple have two sons, aged seven and three.

While Uma’s in-laws cited cardiac arrest as the reason for death, the parents of the deceased alleged foul play and stopped the in-laws from cremating the body.

Uma’s father,Narinder Kumar, who lives in Jagraon, lodged a written complaint with Kharar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Station House Officer (SHO),seeking a thorough probe into the matter.

In his complaint,Kumar said around 9 am on Saturday,he got a call from his daughter’s in-laws that Uma has died of cardiac arrest. The family reached Kharar around 1 pm. Uma’s body was ready to be taken for cremation.

“As we removed the cloth from her face,we were shocked to find strangulation marks on her neck and injury marks elsewhere,” Kumar said.

He has requested to set up a board of doctors, comprising a private doctor,to conduct postmortem under videography to establish the cause of what he apprehended as ‘unnatural death’.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, the local police shifted the body to Civil Hospital, where it was kept at the mortuary.
