A day after Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma claimed that he was not in the race for the Himachal Pradesh chief minister’s post, another Union minister from the state,Virbhadra Singh, said he was also not interested in “ceremonial posts”,including that of the party’s election campaign committee head in the state.

“I have never asked the party to make me the chief minister or declare my candidature. It is all media speculation. I can only clarify that I will abide by the party’s decision since I am a dedicated Congress worker, who has spent 50 years in politics.

“People should stop thinking that I could be brushed aside or dumped as waste after I have been squeezed like a lemon,” he added.

On the Jaypee issue,The minister said he was ready to face a CBI probe. However,at the same time,he claimed that it was the BJP government that had extended undue benefits, including sanctioning the thermal power plant, overruling the previous government decision.

Not in favour
on IPL ban

Virbhadra Singh said he was opposed to the demand of banning IPL. “This is cricket for entertainment. I will not agree with those demanding a ban on IPL,but definitely favour a probe if black money was making way into it. I also take objection to the transfer of valuable land to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association for building a five-star hotel,” he said.
