A man in an inebriated condition strangled his three minor daughters with a rope following an altercation with his wife over his drinking habit in Bahu village in Haryana’s Jhajjar district on Tuesday morning. While one of the daughters has died, another was battling for her life. The accused,Mukesh, has been arrested.

The incident took place when Mukesh (33),a small time carpenter belonging to Khati community, strangled his daughters — Payal (7),Jia (4) and Happy (3) — after he had a heated argument with his wife, who stopped him from drinking. While Jia died,Payal and Happy were admitted to the civil hospital in Jhajjar, from where they were referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak. While Payal is is critical,Happy’s condition was stable.

According to the police,Mukesh had a strained relationship with his wife Suman and both used to frequently fight. “After getting fed up of Mukesh’s drinking habit,Suman had not been staying with Mukesh for the last six weeks. But Mukesh had brought her home yesterday. He again started drinking, which resulted into a fight between them. Following this,Suman left. When she returned in the morning, she saw her daughters lying in bed with a rope tied around their necks. Mukesh, who was drunk, was sitting beside them. The police was informed and we have began investigation,” said Jhajjar SP Patram Singh.

A case has been registered against Mukesh on charges of murder and attempt to murder. “We have called Suman and her mother to record their statements. Preliminary investigations have revealed that whatever Mukesh earned from his business,he used in buying liquor. Suman was facing a lot of hardships in taking care of her family.
