Widow,daughter set man on fire

A Man,in his early 20s,was allegedly set on fire on Tuesday afternoon by a 39-year-old widow with whom he had been staying for the last two-and-a-half years.

Balwant Singh,a labourer from Darewal village near Lohian in Jalandhar district,had been living at Mahinder Kaurs house along with her teenaged daughter Sheela.

While Balwant was sleeping at home yesterday,Mahinder and her daughter poured kerosene oil on him and set him on fire, alleged Balwants brother-in-law Mukhtiar Singh.

They also bolted the room from outside and Balwant sustained 90 per cent burn injuries.

Lohian SHO Manjit SIngh said the victim had been admitted to the civil hospital in Jalandhar and his statement had recorded in presence of the magistrate. Balwant said Mahinder and her daughter set him on fire because he had refused to marry her. Both mother and daughter have been arrested under Section 307 of the IPC,said the SHO.
