Wall collapse: 3 arrested for labourers’ death

A day after two labourers died when a part of the earth caved in at an under-construction site in Industrial Area,Phase I,Chandigarh Police arrested three persons of the construction company against whom a case was registered. “We have arrested the contractor Shiv Gehlot,site supervisor Baljeet Singh and site engineer Sanjeev Kumar against whom a case under Section 304A of the IPC was registered on Thursday,” said Industrial Area Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Malkeet Singh.

Two labourers,Sanjay Kumar and Arun Kumar,were killed on Thursday afternoon when the earth caved in and the wall collapsed at the under construction site in plot number 68 at the Industrial area.

The UT administration has already ordered a probe into the incident and the additional deputy commissioner will conduct an inquiry and submit a report within a fortnight. The inquiry officer will look into the causes of the wall collapse and check whether their was any laxity on part of the construction company which resulted in the death of the two labour.

Meanwhile,the post mortem of the two labourers was conducted at Government Medical College and Hospital GMCH,Sector 32 (GMCH-32) after the legal formalities were completed.
