Riding high on a splendid partnership of 100 runs between Vikrant and Rohit,Tribune XI humbled Hindustan Times XI by nine wickets in a league match of the HMEL Inter-Media Cricket Tournament being organised by Dainik Bhaskar at Sector 26 cricket ground on Wednesday.
Batting first after winning the toss,Hindustan Times were restricted to a modest total of 128 by the Tribune bowlers. The batting side could not come up with a good performance with the bat as they became victims of poor shot selection rather than the bowling. The bowlers bowled as many as 19 wide to help the batting side swell their total. Three of the HT batsmen were out for sloppy running between the wickets.
Abhinav Khanna top scored for the team with 44 runs. He together with Rajat Sharma, put together a partnership of 54 runs to lend some respect to the team’s total score.
In reply,Tribune received an early blow as they lost their opener in the first over itself. The other batsmen kept up the tempo and scored at more than six runs per over. Vikrantand Rohit put together a partnership of 104 runs to get their team close to win before Rohit returned back to the pavillion retired hurt due to a sharp rising delivery that hit him hard. Tribune were cruising at 118 at that time. Vikrant completed his half century as he hit over long on for a six and took his team to victory. Vikas Sharma was the only bowler to pick up a wicket.
In the second match of the day played between Future Express XI and Dainink Bhaskar XI,wayward bowling by the Future bowlers and a good bowling spell by Pawan for Dainik XI ensured Dainik Bhaskar’s victory.
Batting first after winning the toss,Future Express XI batsmen managed 136 runs, which was largely due to some fine batting by opener Gurharminder, who top scored with 70 runs off just 63 deliveries. He played some elegant shots during the course of his stay which included nine boundaries and a huge six. Pawan was the pick of the bowlers as he took three important wickets and gave away only 18 runs during his spell of four overs.
In reply,Dainik Bhaskar did not have a good start as they lost their opener on the first ball of the inning. But later on,Om Parkash partnered with Pawan to get the team closer to the total .The Future Express bowlers were wayward and gave away 21 wides. Saurabh returned to pick up three wickets but it was too late as Dainink Bhaskar reached the target in 18.3 overs.
