Vet varsity GADVASU professor held for ‘circulating defamatory mails’ against PAU prof, senior cop’s wife
A police source said during probe “the mails were tracked to Dr Navdeep’s IP address” following which he was arrested.

The Batala Police arrested a senior scientist-cum-professor at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, for allegedly circulating a defamatory e-mail against the wife of a senior Punjab Police officer and a professor from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
An officer from Batala Police’s cyber police station said that Dr Navdeep Singh, professor and former head, department of veterinary surgery and radiology, GADVASU, was arrested and sent in judicial remand.
While the police is tight-lipped about the matter, police sources confirmed that Dr Navdeep Singh was arrested after a “defamatory bulk e-mail” about the woman and her alleged links with PAU professor was sent from a “fake ID” to “entire PAU faculty including the vice-chancellor”.
A police source said during probe “the mails were tracked to Dr Navdeep’s IP address” following which he was arrested. The officer added that a woman assistant professor from PAU also allegedly connived with him and her role was also under the scanner.
The PAU professor “defamed” in the mail is also the head of a department in agricultural university, while the cop’s wife was working on a project in his department, the source added.
The PAU and GADVASU campuses are located next to each other in Ludhiana.
Despite repeated attempts, senior police officer in Batala did not respond to calls and messages.
