VB ‘catches’ supervisor accepting bribe

UT Vigilance Department on Tuesday arrested an employee of a city-based firm after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe from a tubewell operator.

UT Vigilance Department on Tuesday arrested an employee of a city-based firm after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe from a tubewell operator. Sukhdev Singh,a Supervisor in Envirocure Projects (p) Ltd Health care,Sector- 35,was arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 2,000 from Madan Lal,the tubewell operator in Public Health Department of Municipal Corporation.

The bribe was allegedly to save the complainant Madan Lal’s job. Lal has disclosed that being a daily wager,he receives a pay of Rs 6,883 per month through cheque and thereafter he was compelled to pay a sum of Rs 1,380 to the contractor through a supervisor for every month. He revealed that each operator was being made to pay the same amount to the contractor. There are around 350 such operators.

The bribe money was recovered from Sukhdev Singh’s possession and seized by the Vigilance team at the tubewell in Maloya. The accused has been arrested. A case under Sections 384,120 B IPC 13(1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused will be produced for seeking police remand to know who all are involved in the matter. Further investigation would be carried out.
