After arresting the driver of the victim Dharamveer Sharma,a traditional medical practitioner (vaid),on charges of murder on Monday,Mohali district police today claimed to have completely solved the case with the arrest of three others. The accused, identified as Kulwant Singh of Muktsar,Malkeet Singh and Kawaljeet Singh, both residents of Gidderbaha, were arrested outside a dhaba on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway. All are aged between 25 and 35.
A .12-bore country-made gun,Rs 40,000 in cash and a Maruti car used in the crime have also been recovered, said Zirakpur Station House Officer Ranjodh Singh.
The SHO told Newsline that the driver,Kala Singh, had planned to loot his employer at his Zirakpur clinic on Monday morning for which he enlisted his three friends. While Malkeet and Kawaljeet were also employed as drivers,Kulwant worked as a mason. The gun and car belonged to Kulwant, who shot dead Sharma in the forehead, added Singh.
During preliminary interrogation,Kala revealed that he was employed as Sharmas driver on March 6 and he drove Sharma to Zirakpur on Sunday evening. After Sharma woke up on Monday around 3.45 am,Kala called his accomplices to the spot. Kulwant held Sharma at gunpoint and snatched his suitcase containing cash and other important documents while Kala and other two accomplices stood guard. As the four tried to flee with the cash,Sharma resisted, following which Kulwant shot him. Kala stayed behind at the spot in a bid to mislead the police while the three fled with the booty, revealed the SHO.
The accused have been booked under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC and Sections 25,54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
