To offset power demand in summers, the Chandigarh Administration has worked out an exchange model with the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Under an agreement with the Administration, the state would spare 30 Mega Watts (MW) of electricity for the city during summers — May to August.

Similarly, the Administration would keep aside 30 MW per day for the state during the winter season.

In Chandigarh, the power demand is expected to cross 350 MW per day this summer.

Sources said every winter,30 MW of power was left unused in the city. This excess power would now be kept spare for the Jammu and Kashmir government.

At present, the Administration gets 200 MW per day from power generation units. For April, the Administration has purchased and additional 65 MW. From May to August, this figure will rise to 100 MW per day to meet the growing demand.
