UT Police put to test yet again

To do a reality check of the efficiency of its men,the UT Police will now call back every distressed caller to find out the response of the police control room.

To do a reality check of the efficiency of its men,the UT Police will now call back every distressed caller to find out the response of the police control room (PCR). The police have a complete database which helps it identify the name and number of every person — residents of Punjab and Chandigarh — who calling up the control room.

While the practice of calling back was started two days ago by SSP Naunihal Singh,a detailed report on its success will be prepared by DSP (PCR) Roshan Lal in a few days. The idea is to sharpen the focus of the police in dealing with the public. While over 120 calls are received by the police control room every night, the police will start calling back from 8 am all those who called during the previous night . The satisfaction level of the caller will be then be earmarked in three categories — satisfactory/not satisfactory; police action taken; behaviour of the police and remarks. Similarly, all calls received by the control room during the day will be taken up after a day to study the satisfaction level.

“The practice has been initiated to study the response of the public in general. After a report is prepared, the weak points will be examined and efforts will be made to improve them,” the SSP said.

According to sources, while a number of callers who received a call from the police expressed surprise, there were others who vent their grievances over the difficulties faced in getting a case registered.
