A three-week UGC refresher course on environmental studies was inaugurated by Prof R C Sobti,Vice-Chancellor,Panjab University,Chandigarh,at the seminar hall of Botany department on Thursday.
While Baba Balbir Singh Seechawal,a well-known environmentalist,was the guest of honour on the occasion,the theme of the course was introduced by Course Coordinator Professor A S Ahluwalia,Chairman,Department of Environment and Vocational Studies,Panjab University and Dean Faculty of Science.
In his inaugural address Prof Sobti stressed on the need to create more awareness about the environment. He cited many examples from daily life to highlight the significance of protecting environment.
On the occasion,a film on pollution was also screened by Sant Seechawal.
In the evening,Prof Rajesh Gill,Chairperson,Department of Women Studies,delivered a lecture on the role of women in protecting environment.
