Two held for PU shoot-out

Four days after an alleged shoot-out,in which a supporter of Hindustan Student Association,Saurav Malik was injured,police have arrested two students of a Sector 32 college and claim to have recovered a pistol and two live cartridges from their possession.

“ Those arrested have been identified as Amandeep Singh of Sector 69,Mohali and Gurpreet Singh of Sector 46,Chandigarh,both students of a college in Sector 32,” a police officer said,adding that the duo were arrested near Sector 43 roundabout on Sunday. “ We also recovered a 7.65 mm pistol and two live cartridges from them,” he said. Police are,however,yet to establish the exact spot where the shooting had taken place.

“ We are waiting for Saurav who is in Delhi and the investigation is yet to establish the exact spot of the shoot-out,” Deputy Superintendent of Police,B S Negi said. “ While Saurav had claimed that he was shot in Sector 32 by the students of a rival group,the two arrested claim that there was an altercation near the Sector 42 roundabout”.

Saurav,a resident of Sector 15 in Chandigarh had told the police that a group of students including Vikramjit Singh alias Vikra,Amandeep Singh Barar and Rimpi assaulted him and later shot him from close range at 10.30 pm on September 1. Saurav had a narrow escape as the bullet hit his shoulder. He was later taken to Government Multi- Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,where he was declared as out of danger.

Saurav had alleged that the assailants were associated with Student Organisation of Punjab University.
