Too busy for a haircut
Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof R.C Sobti did not want to spare any effort to get that complete look on the day he was to be conferred the honorary rank of a Colonel by the National Cadets Corps (NCC).
The much elated VC,in fact, had planned to get a haircut too to suit the uniform a day prior to the function. But his busy schedule and a string of meetings ensured that he could not get the right hair cut,one that could complement his uniform. But not one to lose heart,Sobti spent the entire day in the University basking in his new-found glory the army uniform.
Panchkula cops lose sleep over Dera head
The Panchkula police is losing sleep over the prospect of receiving Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim for a hearing in the CBI court. Anticipating the need for unprecedented security measures, the police sounded out the CBI Special Judge about the logistical issues that may arise because of Rahim coming over. Rahim has to appear on May 28 and requests of additional forces have been sent. The fact that he usually turns up for hearings followed by a convoy of about 60-70 cars and followers from neighbouring areas is what is getting the district police worried. Also, the fact that the local police may get a potential law and order problem on their hands.
All in the family
Ever since the lawyers got themselves entangled in the fiasco wherein they hounded and thrashed a police constable on Court premises, their visits to the Punjab and Haryana High Court have become very frequent. Last week, few senior members of the Bar Association of Chandigarh District Courts along with other members of the Bar were seen meeting the High Court Judges ensuring that no strict action is taken against the lawyers. On the other hand, lawyers of District Courts appear to be fairly confident that they will not be arrested. This confidence, sources said, stems from an assurance given by a senior Chandigarh Police officer that the “unruly” lot will not be arrested since the Chandigarh Police does not want to sour the relationship between them and the lawyers.
Back-up plan
An official communication sent by the District and Sessions Judge (DSJ),Chandigarh has the lower Court staff in a tizzy. For,the Judge has sought phone numbers of the Court staff, their residential address and other details. Wondering as to whether the Judge wants to keep a surveillance on them, some Court staff enquired about this from a Court secretary who assured that the details have been sought only in order to contact the staff in case the Judges need some files at an odd hour.
Encore
The councillors of the Municipal Corporation seemed quite perturbed during this months the General House meeting since they found themselves repeating the same issues they had began the term with in 2007. Each one of the councillors has his or her favourite proposals that have not seen any movement in the past five years. The councillors, however still seemed to have some hope about the fulfillment of the proposals in the last few months of the civic body. Making most of the opportunity, many of them once again repeated their wish list.
