Three floors of Mohali ISBT collapse

The accident has cast doubt over the manner in which the construction is taking place. The construction company,C&C Constructions,who has been given this project is currently racing against time to complete the project which has already seen many deadlines being extended.

Colonel CVS Sehgal,General Manager (Commercial) said,“The collapse occurred due to sliding of mud. No on has been injured in the accident.” He added that the accident will not affect the project deadline and they hoped to start the bus terminus by November. Sehgal said,“Though we have incurred a loss of around 50-70 lakh and over 10 days work,the loss is minor. The main structure of the bus terminus remains unaffected.”

The accident site was protected from public and media scrutiny by installing sheets on the outer wall. The media were able to visit the accident site with the local MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu.

Demanding inquiry by a sitting judge or a neutral party,Sidhu,said,“The government should have got the soil checked before giving approval for the project. If such an accident had occurred during day time,many lives would have been lost.”

Mohali junction,which was slated to be the first air conditioned ISBT in the country is set to house a four star hotel,a major grocery outlet and a ten-screen multiplex. It will also function as an office complex.
