The City & I…

He loves chasing the clouds, following the rain, catching the light and capturing the shadows.

Randeep’s camera enriches spaces,as he searches for himself in his photographs

He loves chasing the clouds, following the rain, catching the light and capturing the shadows. Randeep Singh goes beyond the exteriors, steps on the side, feels the moment and waits to watch. So his photographs breathe a freshness you can feel and follow. His first solo show,Chandigarh,Through the Lens,is an ode to the city, his refuge, for the young artist believes that we all need to observe where we stay and as an artist he strives to go beyond what is on the surface. “Photography is an art and for me,each of my pictures need my addition as an artist. I need to know what I am representing,so time and space play an integral role in my photography and capturing shadows and reflections is my style, that enables me to see myself in my art,’’ Randeep displays his photographs at the Alliance Francaise.

Though he’s never studied photography,Randeep tells you candidly he never had the means to buy a hi-tech camera,he learnt it all through experimenting and playing with a 4-year-old camera his friend gave him. “A small lens, simple machine,I made the most of it and my camera and I went places, and now I can click with my eyes closed and express my heart,’’ Randeep describes some of his pictures as semi-realistic. See Chandigarh through his eyes and the usual will seem unusual. Like the well at Rock Garden, where he captures shadows of children in the water, the three colourful pillars of the High Court appear dramatic as what you see is tilted version,a lake near Dhanas, where the clouds sit on the water and the greens envelop the surroundings!

“I see the clouds and I’m on my bike, ready to follow them and secure them,’’ smiles Randeep, who feels we need to document so much in pictures and preserve moments for future generations and his camera is all he needs to feel the world and make him happy. Putting together three shots of the Lake flawlessly,Randeep captures a perfect moment, one that’s unique.

Encompassing architecture and emotions, like a picture where a woman stretches her hand for alms and a shadow on the pillar shows an empty hand,a tree laden with yellow flowers represents the Open Hand, with a man under its shade,Randeep finds beauty all around!
