Tenzing Hillary Everest Half Marathon: In over 5 hrs, HC joint registrar reaches finishing line
Kang covered 21 km in the half marathon, starting from Dingboche (4,530 m) and concluding at Namche Bazar (3,440 m) in five hours, 22 minutes, and 16 seconds.

In an inspiring display of endurance and determination, Punjab and Haryana High Court Joint Registrar Gursharan Singh Kang, 57, has successfully completed the prestigious Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon 2025 (Half Marathon Category) held recently. This iconic high-altitude event is recognised as the world’s highest marathon, taking place annually in the Everest region of Nepal.
Kang covered 21 km in the half marathon, starting from Dingboche (4,530 m) and concluding at Namche Bazar (3,440 m) in five hours, 22 minutes, and 16 seconds. The challenging route featured steep ascents and descents, rocky trails, and awe-inspiring views of the world’s tallest mountains.
Despite his demanding official routine, Kang dedicates approximately two hours daily on weekdays and three-and-a-half to four hours on weekends and holidays for training, demonstrating unwavering discipline and commitment.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is Kang’s personal journey into fitness later in life, with no prior background in sports. Around the age of 48, as health issues surfaced, he made a conscious decision to take charge and transform his lifestyle. Determined to turn things around, he embraced running, cycling, and gym training. From a non-athletic background, he evolved into an endurance enthusiast —cycling distances of up to 130 kilometres and steadily building his running stamina. Before participating in the latest Everest Half Marathon, Kang had already completed 18 half marathons, each marking a milestone in his journey of self-discipline, perseverance, and transformation.
