A tempo driver of Mauli Jagran village in Chandigarh,Jai Singh,in his mid-20s,died when a recklessly driven tractor-trolley collided head-on with his vehicle on the Zirakpur-Patiala National Highway-21 near Nabha Sahib gurdwara in Zirakpur on Thursday night,the police said. Jai Singh was driving back home in his tempo when a speeding tractor-trolley coming from the opposite direction collided head-on in a bid to overtake another vehicle. The mangled remains of the tempo were strewn off the highway while vehicular traffic on the highway remained badly disrupted for over an hour.

The tempo driver was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The police have booked the absconding tractor-trolley driver for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
