The guest faculty in government schools are up in arms against the termination of their services and fresh recruitment by the UT Education department.
At a protest meeting on Friday, nearly 200 teachers demanded their re-appointment and opposed the arbitrary appointment rules for fresh recruitment of around 380 guest faculty posts in 105 government schools.
Most teachers are above the age for applying afresh for the posts advertised. If authorities wanted to expel us,they should have intimated us earlier on May 31,2010,before the start of the new session in schools so that we could have sought jobs in private schools, said a teacher.
Though the advertisement released by the UT Education department clearly mentions that appointments will be made as per rules, teachers with experience from private schools will not be given any weightage irrespective of the years they have taught.
It has been mentioned that five marks for experience of over six months in only UT government schools will be given. This means that private school teachers will miss out on the marks automatically.
The Education Department officials claim they are doing this to improve quality. It means people who have been teaching for more than three years and recruited through the DPI/DEO are not efficient. On the other hand, contractual teachers were appointed by school heads but the department has not taken any note of that. It is clear that they want to adjust their family members and acquaintances, alleged another teacher on condition of anonymity.
