It’s been a year of sci-fi and action so far,and the latest entrant to the scene is Sonic,a new channel from the stable of Viacom 18 Media. To be launched this month,the channel aspires to be the “sci-fi platform for the wi-fi generation”. Naturally fast-paced,Sonic is being brought on the tube to bridge the gap between the kids and the youth channels. Nina Elavia Jaipuria,Executive Vice-President & General Manager of Sonic and Nick India,says,“The channel will launch with multi-lingual feeds. It’s targeted at India’s new young adult,the 10 to17 year olds who’ll get a good mix of action,adventure and animation,24×7.” Live action shows and blockbuster films will form a huge chunk of Sonic’s content line-up. “The launch of Sonic opens up an interesting category for both viewers as well as advertisers,” says Bob Bakish,President & CEO of Viacom International Media Networks. “Sonic will target the urban,hyperactive,new young adult,” says Jaipuria,adding that Sonic will resonate well with brands who want to reach out to this “young but very influential” target group.
